We Are Back in the Woods Again

Back in the Woods Again was founded by Tommy Estridge & Jerome Davis. Davis was a World Champion bull rider who was paralyzed after being thrown from a bull in 1998. The organization was founded in November of 2011 to provide disabled sportsmen (men, women & children) a chance to get back into the woods again to deer hunt. Tommy & Jerome partnered with private landowners in central North Carolina who committed their time, labor, money & property and provided each hunter with an unforgettable experience.

Since 2011, the event has grown into one of the largest adaptive deer hunts in the country with dozens of landowners and hundreds of amazing volunteers. The annual hunt brings our community together and allows hunters and guides to get Back in the Woods Again!

Local Huntress Awarded Scholarship

Back in the Woods Again, in partnership with the Jewell family, awarded Mattie Caviness a $2000 scholarship in memory of Brandon Jewell, one of our former favorite hunters. Mattie is an avid hunter in Bennett, NC and is currently studying Natural Resources Management at Western Carolina University. We would like to thank the Jewel family and Mattie and her family for all their contributions as guides and volunteers.

BITWA sponsors Uwharrie Youth

Uwharrie Youth Sportsmen volunteer with us each year, and they can usually be found moving deer through the check in and processing area at our annual hunts. We appreciate these young people and their leaders and the many ways they help their community. BITWA is proud to sponsor UYS’s new archery range.

Uwharrie Youth Sportsmen is a community organization based in Denton, NC, dedicated to providing outdoor recreational opportunities for young individuals.With a focus on fostering a love for nature and sportsmanship, the organization offers a range of activities and programs designed to engage and educate youth in the surrounding area.
